Future Research Directions
- Plantigrade, Digitigrade, and Unguligrade. Briefly mentioned before, the next
logical step is to apply the rig to creatures walking on the balls of their feet,
heels, and possibly knees.
- Two, Six, or more legged creatures. The field of robotics has researched how
these animals move since they provide a continual foundation of stability while
moving - an advantage to robotic systems that lack stabilizing muscles. The
scripting tools to copy keyframe animation could be very useful for animating
mult-legged creatures.
- Unusual gaits such as the Icelandic Tölt, transitional and recovery gaits, and
artifical gaits that don't exist in nature could be attempted.
- The art of character animation is only touched upon briefly in this thesis.
The performance of a character is something that could be discussed at length.
More techniques from the field of character animation could be applied.
